The Thai restaurant in Forbes Street is providing the food for our upcoming ‘Movies, Meditation and Muscles Madness’ event – a true Kennedy Town affair
Reinforcing theDesk’s ‘neighbourhood ethos’, our co-working space has been joined by Kennedy Town’s Café Siam restaurant in creating an incredible event for film, fitness and food fans on Saturday July 15. ‘Movies, Meditation and Muscle Madness’ is already a partnership between ourselves and K-Town yoga venue Lemon Drop Studio – but the inclusion of the popular Thai restaurant makes the event a truly local affair.
During the event, there are two groups – ‘Ice’ and ‘Fire’. ‘Ice’ is the more laidback group, with participants watching the movie Eat Pray Love at theDesk from 5.30pm and, later on, heading to Lemon Drop for an hour’s meditation by candlelight. The emphasis is on relaxation and creating a feelgood vibe. ‘Fire’, on the other hand, sees you meeting at Lemon Drop at 7pm, where you enjoy an hour of fitness and combo yoga before heading to theDesk to watch Eddie the Eagle, a hilarious sports comedy. There’s to be some nutritious post-workout food, plus, again, a feelgood vibe.
Café Siam is providing five dishes for the ‘Ice’ group on the evening – grilled pork neck, signature tom yum chicken wings, Thai papaya salad, classic pad thai noodles and pineapple fried rice. The nourishing food for the ‘Fire’ group is being provided by the team at Lemon Drop. The entire event is free for both groups.
Chris Chan, operations manager at Café Siam Kennedy Town, says: “We use only the best ingredients from Thailand, like our herbs, for instance. Everyone likes Thai food – and it’s generally good for your health, which fits in perfectly with this event.”
Chan says he’s really pleased to be part of an event that shows the restaurant’s ‘neighbourhood ethos’ – which is similar to the outlook of both Lemon Drop and theDesk, where we support businesses and people in our surrounding areas of K-Town, Sai Ying Pun and Sai Wan.
“It’s really important to support the Kennedy Town neighbourhood,” says Chan. “It is a small-yet-interesting part of the city with many people who have lived here for a long time – some for more than 60 years. It’s a neighbourhood we love to support, so Café Siam is happy to support this event by providing the food. This is bringing something new to Kennedy Town. Supporting events like this really makes us feel part of the area.”
