Alongside being a gourmet paradise, Hong Kong has always ranked as a top destination for shopaholics. The western district and Causeway Bay, two vibrant neighborhoods which theDesk is connected with, are particularly endowed with an array of shops and boutiques. As most of the famous malls are well documented, we’ve decided to take a look at some of the more niche fashion boutiques that can be found in our two neighborhoods.
1. Jo’s Ready to Wear
Founded by local Hong Kong designer, Joanna Chu Liao, Jo’s products infuse multiple lifestyle elements into their design and are created with all types of women in mind. Every season, the shop delivers a new style of women’s clothing that will help you stand out from the crowd. The theme of the past two seasons, 2018 fall and 2018 winter, were native Boheme and soft-powered aesthetic respectively.
Having worked with a range of designers from across the world, Joanna finds inspiration in both oriental and western cultures, giving her fashion a one-of-a-kind feel. Whether you’re looking for a change of style or simply want to add a new aesthetic to your closet, Jo’s Ready To Wear is the boutique for you.

If you’re a lover of all things vintage, Luddite is the place for you to fill your wardrobe. The moment you step inside the shop, you’ll be warmed by its wooden interior and precious collection of European work-wear that includes some unique hunting vests.
Their clothing takes inspiration from early 19th century to late 20th-century fashion. For example, a pair of authentic British army Gurkha trousers – a by-product of the Anglo-Nepalese War in 1814 – is like nothing we’ve seen before. Other than their trove of collected vintage clothes and antiques, Luddite also sells handcrafted own-brand products. Located just a few minutes from the Causeway Bay MTR station, there’s no excuse not to check it out.
- Venue: G/F, 15A Haven Street, Causeway Bay

Mahka is no ordinary fashion boutique. Rather, it’s a fashion gallery that merges art and culture with clothes, bringing you a whole new shopping experience. Founded by a French designer who was raised in Hong Kong, Mahka strives to embody the multi-cultural characteristics of “The Pearl of the Orient” with a pinch of Parisian style.
The fact that it’s situated on the boundary the eclectic neighborhoods of Sheung Wan and Sai Wan aligns with their ambitious mission. Here, you’ll be able to transcend the norms of shopping and enjoy the coalescence of fashion, music and art. In June 2018, Mahka collaborated with Graz, a multi-talented artist, to launch a collection of T-shirts and accessories that celebrate freedom. Mahka’s unique infusion of complementary artistic elements takes shopping to whole a new level.
- Venue: 4 Wa Lane, Tai Ping Shan, Sheung Wan
