People in Hong Kong take their food seriously. Whether it is for business or leisure, it has been a culture here to make plans on where to go for lunch on work days. Lucky for us, theDesk Sai Wan community is spoilt for choice in one of Hong Kong’s fastest emerging dining districts. From casual meetups to the more formal, deal-making business lunch options on weekdays, we have narrowed a great list of restaurants that are all within walking distance from our office space.

Shoreditch

Shoreditch Business Lunch

Nothing says let’s get down to business than sleek lines, modern décor and the fresh industrial vibes of this K-Town hotspot. This urban eatery brings the taste of London to the neighbourhood. Offering great quality food and drinks, this is a great option for a lunch meeting. We had the grilled salmon with lemon butter and root veg – delicious. With a weekday lunch special of two courses for $98 this is hard to miss.

Café Malacca – Hotel Jen

Located within the Shangri-La’s Hotel Jen, Café Malacca channels the hawker stalls of Malaysia and Singapore with its freshly prepared street-style food. One of theDesk’s favourites and Michelin recognized, Café Malacca delivers on all of the classic flavours with their delicious satays, laksas, prawn noodles and Hainanese chicken rice. A must try and only a few minutes up the road from theDesk Sai Wan.

Gastrobox: The Union

theDesk Hong Kong Sai Wan Kennedy Town

One of the newer additions to Kennedy Town nestled within the Cadogan apartment block sits this classy bistro, a perfect setting for business wheeling and dealing. Complete with a set lunch menu offering 2 -3 courses (soup or salad to start, mains and optional dessert as an add on depending on how much time you have), Gastrobox is certainly worth a sampling. The pan-fried pork is meant to be a hit.

AH HHA/AH HHI

Perfect for a more casual lunch with colleagues, you’ve found the right place if you like traditional Malaysian dishes and delicious its seafood-and-noodle soups. We like the sound of the ‘Light Lunch Set Special’ which, for a very reasonable $88-$108 offers a special crab and corn soup and salad, plus a choice of noodle, with options like the signature Penang-style prawn and pork rib soup, Seafood Assam Laksa or the Crab Soup E-Fu Noodle.

Bistro du Vin

For a sophisticated, yet relaxed business lunch and an authentic Parisian bistro experience, head to Bistro du Vin. There’s an emphasis on Gallic home cooking here, think dishes like home-made pork pate, bayonne ham, duck rilletes, pan seared foie gras with smoked eel and braised angus short rib with apricot jus. Deliciously rustic, this is a classy lunch choice.

Cafe Siam

This is a branch of the only Michelin-recognised Thai restaurant in Central located in K-Town’s Forbes Street. Good for the more casual of meetings, with reliable tasty food with unique flavours. The three-course set lunch begins with a soup or salad and is followed by a choice of Thai favourites (we love the red curry with mixed vegetables, the excellent thai noodles wrapped in an egg omelette and the spicy drunken fried noodles with chicken). Definitely worth checking out.

Catch.

Catch is one of our favourites, a classy yet casual option for a catch up with colleagues or clients over lunch or coffee. The set lunch includes a free soft drink, tea or coffee and includes starters like a farro, spring onion and cashew coleslaw and mains like a summer risotto, soft shell crab burger and a sea bass laksa with a panacotta to finish it off. Hard to go past!

  • Lunch Hours: From midday
  • Venue: 95 Catchick Street, Kennedy Town

Gioia Charcoal Grill & Oyster Bar

A good choice for a quieter business lunch with some wine and tasty Italian and steakhouse-esque grub. The set lunch menu features a daily salad and a soup before a wide variety of main choice options including grilled Aussie rib eye steak, grilled marbled sirloin with gravy or spring chicken, linguine or pan fried salmon. Most importantly, if you order four set lunches, one is free! Now that, is a lunch bargain.

Little Creatures

This microbrewery has created a huge stir as it launched its massive space in K-Town and has been bringing in a steady crowd of visitors keen on tasting the impressive array of tipples since it opened. For $120 you get a two-course meal, with starters like the roasted beetroot salad with orange and rocket and mains like the pulled pork sandwich with slaw (our pick), mushroom linguine or the angus beef burger. For $20 extra you can add dessert and for $30 extra you get a choice of their IPA House Brew or Dark Ale to wash it all down. Tried and tested, this lunch menu is a winner.

Thalassic Thai Restaurant

Take your colleagues to Thalassic which boasts a huge range of Thai dishes as well as filling lunch deals. It’s delightfully casual, cosy and comfortable. There are rice, wok-fried noodle and noodle-soup lunch sets and the prices are good. Plus, there’s also a massive choice of à la carte Thai dishes at lunchtime like pad thai and the fresh pineapple and chicken fried rice (which is visually excellent). Definitely worth a sampling!
