theDesk joined forces with Kennedy Town’s Lemon Drop Studio for a special movie, yoga and meditation night on Saturday. Here are the pics and vids…
Whoever thought you could combine yoga, fitness and meditation with movies, popcorn and scrummy Thai food all in one Saturday night event? We did – that’s who! Our ‘Movies, Meditation and Muscle Madness’ event on Saturday evening was a roaring success, with fitness fanatics, meditation maniacs and film fans flocking to both theDesk co-working and events space in Sai Wan and Lemon Drop Studio in Kennedy Town.
We at theDesk joined forces with yoga venue Lemon Drop to bring ‘Movies, Meditation and Muscle Madness’ to people in our neighbourhood and beyond. Basically, for free, guests who’d RSVP-ed came along and enjoyed either a night dedicated to fitness and sports or one dedicated to meditation and, well, generally feeling good. Everyone who took part enjoyed incredible Thai dishes from Kennedy Town’s Café Siam, who sponsored the event, as well as popcorn which we made in-house using Lemon Drop’s special machine.
Basically, our guests were divided into two groups: ‘Ice’ and ‘Fire’. The ‘Ice’ group members were able to put their feet up in our space and enjoyed the Thai food while they watched, on our big screen at theDesk, 2010’s Eat Pray Love. The group was then escorted across K-Town to Lemon Drop, where the team there led our participants through an hour’s meditation by candlelight. At the same time, however, the ‘Fire’ group met at Lemon Drop and took part in a full-on hour of fitness and combo yoga to work up a pre-movie sweat before they were escorted across K-Town to theDesk to settle down to 2015’s Eddie the Eagle with their Thai grub and popcorn.
Matt Fleming, media director at theDesk, says: “It was an excellent event, with plenty of people coming along. The ‘Fire’ group members burned a ton of calories over at Lemon Drop before they giggled their way through the inspiring Eddie the Eagle and the ‘Ice’ group members chilled out with Eat Pray Love before losing themselves in meditation over at the yoga studio. A special thanks goes to Café Siam Kennedy Town for feeding everyone. They gave us so much amazing food that we donated some of it to the elderly in our neighbourhood after the event.”
“This was an important event for us at theDesk,” continues Fleming. “It toasted both theDesk’s and Lemon Drop’s shared ‘neighbourhood ethos’, where we’re both committed to bringing people and businesses in our surrounding areas together. Lemon Drop is always looking at ways to bring the K-Town community together and we do the same for the entire K-Town, Sai Ying Pun and Sai Wan neighbourhoods. Look out for future ‘Movies, Meditation and Muscle Madness’ events – we’re looking to make them regular, just for our surrounding neighbourhood. We like a bit of madness from time to time…”
