Budding artists from across Hong Kong descended on theDesk co-working, events and exhibition space in Sai Wan on Saturday for our special creative workshop event: ‘SatArtDay’. Practicing Picassos and talented Tanguys joined forces in the afternoon with the three Sai Ying Pun artists who currently have their works up on the walls at our space as part of ‘The Beating Art of Sai Ying Pun’ exhibition, which launched on May 5 and is in place until June 16.

Artists Céline Chou, Mila Morton and Victor Law took the visitors through their paces as some created abstract expressionist art with Morton downstairs, some fashioned abstract paintings on our third floor with Chou after watching a performance artist in action and some headed out to the street to sketch theDesk’s surrounding buildings with Law. Most of the visitors got to try all three disciplines and we’re keeping hold of a few of the artworks they created to see if they sell in the future when they become famous…

SatArtDay, as well as the exhibition itself, which you can check out across theDesk’s three floors any time during the working week, has been supported by Geneyclee Gallery in Kwun Tong. Plus, the exhibition has also been supported by Taylor Shellfish Farms, which has a restaurant in SYP’s High Street, in terms of the food. As for the artists, Chou is from Cambodian heritage, grew up in France, studied in Shanghai and now creates stunning abstract art, matching scarves and fashion accessories in her Sai Ying Pun studio. Morton is from Russia but creates her abstract expressionist paintings using an array of different materials and tools in her Sai Ying Pun studio. And Law, a successful IT sales executive who only discovered his talent for drawing a couple of years ago, sketches old buildings, adding splashes of colour and ‘joy’, mostly in his home area of Sai Ying Pun.

If you missed both the exhibition opening and SatArtDay, then pop in any time during the week to theDesk, at 511 Queen’s Road West between 9am and 5pm, to check out the artists’ paintings and sketches. You can purchase the artworks here too. And watch this space for our next exhibition and art days in July. We hope to see you budding artists again then!
